When you hear the words still life what do you think of?
I thought of old paintings in museums of fruit and other types of food. Come to find out there is a whole genre of photography like this.
Yes some of it is of traditional still life, but the world of still life can be anything. Some common terms we use are flat lay photography, food photography and product photography. Yes all of these are still life.
But there's one photographer who introduced me to a sub-genre of this topic and it's called conceptual still life.
Her name is Dina Belenko and you can find her work here. I recently bought her book "The Still life Cookbook" and it's filled with things I have always wondered how to do. It's been extremely inspirational to me lately. I have been experimenting a lot with the elements in it.
The picture above is from that experiment. I can't wait to further dive into the book. So be on the lookout for lots more still life from me.
Tell me what you think of the photo. Do you like it?
