Product photography shouldn't just be a product with a white or black background. Your product should tell a story about what is and does for the consumer. If you were see an image of the blood knot tool (blue rectangle pictured above) without context you would have no idea what it was intended for. Putting a product in an image with context is much more likely to grab the attention of your viewer, especially if you put the image on social media.
For the Angler's Ace blood knot tool I wanted to surround it with other common tools used for fly fishing. If you your a fly fisherman you might not know what the blood knot tool is, but you'd understand that it has something to do with fly fishing based on the flies and the hemostats. Below I added a fly fishing reel in an outdoor setting for extra context.
In product photography you also want to show off the product's features in a storytelling manner. One of the great features of the Angler's Ace blood knot tool is that it's small, about the size of a credit card, which easily allows you to store it in a fishing vest pocket. So, when a business tells you about these features that's what you need to photograph.
